Profile
Simon Hopes is a freelance copywriter with over 17 years in marketing and staff communications, freelancing since 2002 for agencies and direct to organisations.
Service
I provide a full-service freelance copywriter resource, based on a career that spans the full corporate communications mix and both agency and client-side roles.
My portfolio covers all online and print formats, with additional expertise in PowerPoint/multimedia presentations and corporate video. I undertake short, single assignments and larger ongoing projects, working for many organisations as the freelance copywriter extension of their in-house marketing and HR teams.
I write for both mass and targeted audiences, and have a flair for distilling technical material for non-technical audiences and creating ‘ambassador statements’ that will summarise your organisation’s offering perfectly. Wherever possible, text is prepared to Crystal Mark standard, as defined by the Plain English Campaign.
Expertise
I work across a broad range of sectors, with particular expertise acquired in engineering, law, marketing services, online, pharmaceuticals and training. Specialist field experience also includes corporate governance, corporate social responsibility and professional services.
I undertake freelance copywriter assignments for large communicators such as CNN, DLA Piper, GlaxoSmithKline, Institute of Directors, Medical Research Council, Microsoft and Royal Bank of Scotland and the, as well as a range of smaller private and public sector clients. On the agency side, I work with full-service marketing communications agencies, as well as specialists in corporate video, digital media, presentations and PR.
Background
Prior to life as a freelance copywriter, I worked for a number of leading professional services organisations. Career highlights include marketing and staff communications roles at the Institute of Directors, international law firm Denton Wilde Sapte and communications agency Upstream Presentation.
I also undertake continuing professional development studies into areas such as communications psychology and the application of storytelling technique to corporate campaigns.
